Emergency Services

For most providers of emergency services - police, fire, ambulance - in their buildings technical performance is all, and there can be a perception that 'design' is a rather irrelevant luxury. However we have been able to demonstrate over many years of producing buildings in this sector that good design is about more than looks - that in fact good designing/planning is essential both to the critical performance and to the cost-effectiveness of the building. At the same time, as with all buildings it is not just the direct building-users who have to live with them, so while it may not be a priority to the service, appearance and the way the building relates to its surrounding environment is important.

Over the years, we have built up experience in a wide range of emergency services - police stations, police custody, rapid response, admin, traffic control, flight control, fire stations etc. Crossover into health services includes hospital A&E wards and ambulance accommodation.

Whether employed directly by the service or (more commonly in recent years) as part of design-and-build contractor team, the most important factor for a successful project to the employer is technical and timely delivery. Grainge Architects, being privately owned and run by its three hands-on directors, is able to respond pro-actively and quickly to developing requirements and provide an efficient and well-targeted design service.
